WINOOSKI -- A 24-year-old Winooski woman was being held on $25,000 bail after
allegedly stabbing another woman early Saturday in a dispute over gasoline for a
car.
Saudia LaMont was slated to appear in court Monday to face charges of aggravated
assault, Winooski police said.
A police affidavit indicates LaMont stabbed Tiffany Johnson, 22, during a
scuffle on the front porch of Johnson's apartment at 157 Pine St. shortly before
8 a.m. Johnson was stabbed in the back and the left arm with a kitchen knife and
was treated at Fletcher Allen Health Care.
Johnson told police that shortly before arriving at her home, LaMont had called
her about paying for gasoline for a rental car of LaMont's that Johnson had
used, according to the affidavit.
Police said LaMont left after the incident and called police about 10:35 a.m. to
report she had been assaulted by Johnson and had stabbed her in self defense.
After seeking medical treatment in Morrisville, LaMont reported in person to the
Winooski Police Department about 1:15 p.m., the affidavit said.

WINOOSKI -- A 59-year- old man who police said was intoxicated, had guns and
rifles and fired a number of shots inside his house held police at bay outside
his home for several hours Saturday.
Police said James P. Mahoney of 48 St. Peter St. faces charges of recklessly
endangering another person and disorderly conduct following the incident that
started about 6.20 a.m. and lasted about five hours. During that time a number
of neighbors were evacuated and vehicular and pedestrian traffic was banned from
a one-block area around the home.
An affidavit by Winooski police officer William Sullivan said Mahoney's wife,
Brenda Mahoney, called police to the home early Saturday after an evening during
which she said Mahoney was drinking and fired a gun several times. She told
police her husband had two pistols and several rifles in the house.
Brenda Mahoney was escorted from the house unharmed while her husband remained
inside. Officers from the Vermont State Police Tactical Support Unit and
neighboring agencies assisted at the scene while Burlington and State Police
negotiated with Mahoney for several hours before he was taken into custody. He
is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
